Prevailing Wage

Overview

Prevailing wage laws apply to public construction work and generally require employers to pay workers the hourly wage and fringe benefits paid to the majority of workers in a particular county.

The 2017 - 2019 state budget repealed Wisconsin's prevailing wage laws. Prevailing Wage rates applicable to state agencies will be those issued by the U.S. Department of Labor under the Davis-Bacon Act, 40 U.S.C. 3142.

You can find more information about projects and project determinations under the Davis-Bacon Act online or by contacting the Wage & Hour Division at 1-866-4-US-WAGE (487-9243).
