Wisconsin New Hire Reporting

A program requiring employers to report newly hired employees under 42 USC § 653a(1)(A), DWD 142, and Wis. Stat. § 103.05

Federal and state law requires all Wisconsin employers and labor organizations with a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) to report to the State Directory of New Hires within 20 days:

  • Each newly hired employee.
  • Employees who are rehired, recalled, or returning to work after an unpaid interval of more than 60 days (including individuals who remain on the payroll during the separation).

For more information, see Reporting Fundamentals.

  • The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division uses a New Hire Crossmatch to identify new hires that continue to file for benefits without reporting wages. Millions of dollars in overpayments have been detected through this crossmatch.
