Re-Employment Services (RES) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If you are a UI claimant who is legally required to perform a weekly work search, Re-Employment Services (RES) allows us to assess your job search needs through an "early intervention" process and provide targeted services to assist you in returning to work more quickly. In addition, UI claimants who are legally required to perform a weekly work search must participate in Re-employment Services (RES) to meet federal and state requirements.
At the time you complete your UI initial claim and if you are required to perform a weekly work search, you are currently required to register for work online at Job Center of Wisconsin and complete all required activities, including the following:
  • Step 1. Complete the online registration for work Job Center of Wisconsin. Currently, all UI claimants required to look for work must be fully registered and complete a job match profile.
  • Step 2. After receiving your first UI benefit payment, you will be required to complete a RES online orientation and assessment to determine the services you must complete. You will need to complete both the online orientation and assessment within 14 calendar days from the mail date on your RES letter. Failure to complete these will result in a suspension of UI benefits until your requirement is fulfilled completely.
  • Step 3. Based on the outcome of your RES assessment, you may be required to attend a session to continue receiving UI benefit payments. Check your My JCW page or your Unemployment Online Benefit Services page for any pending requirements.
  • Step 4. If you are required to attend a RES session, you must both schedule and attend the session at one of our Job Center locations within 21 calendar days from the time you completed the online assessment. To schedule a RES session online, go to My JCW. Failure to complete these within the 21 calendar days will result in suspension of UI benefits until your requirement is fulfilled completely.
  • Step 5. At the session, you may be required to attend a subsequent session. If you are required to attend a subsequent RES session, you must both schedule and attend the session within 21 calendar days from the time you are notified of this requirement. To schedule a RES session online, go to My JCW. Failure to complete these within the 21 calendar days will result in suspension of UI benefits until your requirement is fulfilled completely.
You will see an online notification telling you the next required step in the process prior to completing the RES assessment and once you have successfully logged on to either your My JCW page or to your Unemployment Online Benefit Services page.
Call the Job Service call center at 888-258-9966 PRIOR to the due date of your next requirement expiring. An agent will assess your situation on a case by case basis. Your UI benefit payments will be suspended if you do not complete the requirement and fail to contact the Job Service Center.
Your UI benefit payment from the week you missed your deadline will be disqualified until you complete the assigned activity. You should complete the RES requirement you missed as quickly as possible.
The online assessment may indicate you would benefit from additional RES services. Your attendance is required. You need to schedule and attend the RES session within the 21 calendar days from your completed online assessment, as shown on your My JCW page or your Unemployment Online Benefit Services page to continue receiving your UI benefit payments.
You can schedule your RES session online at Job Center of Wisconsin which can be accessed from the Job Seeker Tools menu or from My JCW. We have updated our system to allow you to choose the time and location that best fits your schedule. Failure to complete the RES session within the 21 calendar days from the date your assessment was completed will result in suspension of UI benefits until your requirement is fulfilled completely.
You can reschedule your RES session online at Job Center of Wisconsin. Your UI benefits will not be held as long as you reschedule AND attend the session within the ORIGINAL 21 day deadline from the date your assessment was completed.
If you did not attend a scheduled session, your UI benefit payments may be suspended, even if you schedule a new session. You must enroll in a new session right away. An unemployment adjudicator may need to contact you to determine if UI benefits can be paid.

UI claimants are required to participate in RES periodically. If it has been more than 10 months since you last participated, you may be required to participate again.
If you accept a full time or part time job prior to completing a RES requirement, contact an Unemployment Insurance claims specialist at 414-435-7069 as soon as possible. If you receive a work search waiver because you are working (or any other reason), you are not legally required to perform a work search and are not required to participate in Re-employment Services (RES).
